Halloween is a time for horror, it is one of the best excuses ever to gather your friends, order a pizza and watch some of the most terrifying and entertaining movies ever made. From the cauldrons to cackles, suspense to slashers our list will have you screaming, jumping, laughing, and will generally scare the beetle juice out of you.

1. Halloween – When it comes to classic Halloween horror films, this one is the mother of them all. Institutionalised since childhood for the murder of his sister, the psychotic protagonist escapes and stalks a young girl and her friends while his doctor chases him through the streets…. Definitely not one to watch on your own!

2. Young Frankenstein – Starring Gene Wilder, this hilarious story about Dr. Frankenstein’s grandson is an American classic. Be endlessly entertained by Young Frankenstein attempting to continue his grandfather’s ghoulish works, this film is filled to the brim with timeless one liners and hilarious set pieces. Everyone should watch this horror movie parody at some point in their lives.

The Birds – One of Hitchcock’s best. – A wealthy and mischievous San Francisco socialite pursues a potential boyfriend to a remote Northern California town that slowly takes a turn for the bizarre as a mysterious series of savage bird attacks descend on the local people. 4. Beetlejuice – It wouldn’t be Halloween without a Tim Burton film- wacky, weird and wonderful this is the perfect film to get you into the Halloween Spirit! A couple of recently deceased ghosts contract the services of Beetlejuice, a “bio-exorcist” to remove the obnoxious new owners of their house.

5. Silence of the Lambs – sure to send shivers down your spine, watch Jodie Foster as a young F.B.I. cadet get dangerously close to an incarcerated and manipulative killer (Anthony Hopkins) for his help in catching another serial killer who skins his victims.

6. Hocus Pocus – THE best Halloween movie of all time, before Sex and the City THIS is what SJP was doing. Follow the story of a calamitous group of evil witches who have been resurrected by a sceptical young school boy lighting the ancient and mythical Black Flamed Candle… filled with amazing lines like: ”go to hell”, “Oh I’ve been there, thank you. I found it quite lovely” this film is wonderfully nostalgic and is bound to get you into the spirit.
